ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ITDC NEWS R Having been out of power in Gujarat for over two and a half decades, the opposition Congress on Sunday came out with the 'Dwarka Declaration', showcasing its vision for the state.

Gujarat faces election by the end of the year.

The declaration was released at the end of a 3-day brain-storming session in Dwarka. On Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had urged the party workers to go to the masses with a vision.

Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi told THE WEEK that the declaration is based on the deliberations that took place during the meet.

More than 500 participants discussed Congress’s ideology, current issues, the party's functioning and the way forward. The participants were divided in several groups.

Giving gas cylinders for less than Rs 500, giving more tax waiver than what is being given, waiving off agricultural loan and giving Rs 4 lakh to the kin of those who died due to Covid-19 are some of the highlights of the declaration.

In a bid to give relief to parents from the privatization of education, the Congress said it would set up Mahatma Gandhi Model School.

It also said that the electricity bills of the farmers will be reduced by half and minimum support prices for farm produces will be decided.

The declaration states that in urban areas, “Triranga Clinics” will be set up ward-wise. Doshi said that the idea of the clinic is to ensure that even treatment of the ailment is available at the clinics. Civil hospitals and, primary and community health centres will be strengthened.

The declaration also promises to create 10 lakh jobs and bring out a time-bound calendar to fill 5 lakh posts in various government departments.

Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor said that the policies of the party would be put up before the masses in the times to come. He said that the Congress is committed to give a clean and able government.
