'Deepest regard for defence forces': Digvijaya Singh clarifies his remarks on surgical strikes

ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ ITDC NEWS  A day after Digvijaya Singh's remarks questioning the 2019 surgical strikes, Jairam Ramesh lashed out the media during the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Tuesday and pointed out that now questions should be directed at the Prime Minister

While being asked questions by the media on Singh's remarks, AICC general secretary, communications, Ramesh during the Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir said that his party has answered all queries relating to the surgical strikes. He told reporters that now the media needs to ask questions to the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Digvijaya Singh said that "I have got deepest regard for the Defence forces."

Congress had distanced itself from Singh's remarks by saying that the views do not reflect the position of the party which supports all military actions that are in national interest.

"The views expressed by senior leader Digvijaya Singh are his own and do not reflect the position of Congress. Surgical strikes were carried out before 2014 by UPA government. Congress has supported and will continue to support all military actions that are in the national interest," Ramesh tweeted on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi resumed from Sitni bypass Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Digvijaya Singh had said that there is no proof of the 2019 surgical strike against Pakistan, while the Centre claims to have carried out the attack.

On February 14, 2019, a CRPF convoy was attacked by militants in Kashmir's Pulwama that killed 44 Indian jawans.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia hit out at the Congress saying such comments show that the Rahul Gandhi-led foot march across the country is Bharat Jodo Yatra only in name while he and his party colleagues are working to "break" the country, reported PTI.
