ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ ITDC NEWS As India and Australia brace up for the upcoming Test series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the end of the traditional four-Test series as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee of the BCCI also announced on Friday the 17-member squad for the forthcoming Boder-Gavaskar series.

The series is set to begin on February 9 in Nagpur. It will be the team's final contest in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

"This will also be the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will be a 4-match Test series feature," read the statement from BCCI.

According to reports, talks have been going on for a long time to change the series from a four-match contest to five Tests series.

Since 2003-2004, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been a four-Test series since India had toured Australia, with the 2010/11 contest only being a two-Test contest. The last time a series featured five Tests was in 1991/92.

Earlier last year in August,  ICC had released the Men's FTP cycle for 2023-27, which includes two sets of five-match series for the Border-Gavasakar Trophy in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship cycles. According to the FTP, Australia will host India for the first five-match Border-Gavaskar series in 2023-25 of the WTC cycle, followed by a reciprocal tour in the 2025-27 cycle.
