ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ ITDC NEWS R The Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry conferred the award for the 'Top Indian Academic Institution for Patents & Commercialization' on Amity University, during the National Intellectual Property Award – 2020 virtual event today organised by Indian Intellectual Property Office under the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT).

The award was presented by Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles.

Ashok K. Chauhan, founder president, Amity Education Group, and Atul Chauhan, chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, received the award.

Goyal, while giving the award, said that it not only recognises the innovative ideas of individuals and institutions but also serves as an inspiration for others. He emphasised on bringing IP revolution for inclusive progress in the nation and strengthening IPR laws, creating an appropriate IPR ecosystem.

The minister said India’s ranking in Global Innovation Index has improved to 48 in 2020 (+33 ranks from 81st in 2015-16). He urged everybody to work in a mission mode to achieve the target of being in the top 25 nations of Global Innovation Index.

The minister made a clarion call to all academia, including Amity University, to play an important role and look at online and possibly a hyrbid online and offline programmes to train the youth for better understanding about IPR, copyright, trademarks and patents.

Accepting the award, Chauhan said that the programme of recognising the contribution of research and innovation organisation is a great step to making India the global superpower. He also said that he has great faith and confidence in the creativity, innovativeness and brilliance of the Indian youth. He thanked Goyal for conferring the award on Amity and assured that the university would contribute towards nation-building and the mission of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
