UP election 2022: Amit Shah kicks off BJP campaign to recruit members

ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ ITDC NEWS Home Minister Amit Shah was in Lucknow on Friday to kick off the party’s membership campaign.

It is an easy enough campaign—extolling people to give a missed call to a particular number. Each such call equals a member—or perhaps not as the opposition has asked in the part.

Speaking to party workers today, Shah’s target was the Samajwadi Party. “For many years the SP-BSP game is on in UP. This has destroyed UP. The blood would boil seeing the pathetic law and order situation in the state. Today there is no migration in Delhi. Those who forced migrations have migrated on their own from this state,” he said.

He also took on the SP for being missing in action during the pandemic. “Where were you during COVID, Akhilesh?” he asked, adding that the Yogi government had worked tirelessly for the poor.

“People have seen how change can be brought about. Despite all that which is been done, we still need your blessings for five more years”, he said.

“86 lakh active party workers worked through the pandemic. For us, the elections are a celebration of democracy”, he said.

Party watchers carefully noted how many times Shah took the name of the state’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath: 18 times in 32 minutes. This, even though the BJP's top rung had not explicitly said the UP election would take place under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath.

Shah later tweeted, “Under the guidance of @narendramodi and @yogiadityanath the BJP government has freed the state of goondaraj, corruption and casteism. BJP has shown that governments are not formed for families but their duty is to uplift the poorest of poor families”.

The home minister also flagged off the party’s election van which will take the achievements of the Prime Minister and the chief minister across the state.
