ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ITDC NEWS Amid continued rise in COVID-19 cases in Gujarat, the state government, on Thursday, announced mass promotion of Class X students of Gujarat Secondary Education Board. The decision was taken at a core committee meeting headed by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in Gandhinagar.

Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said mass promotion will be given to regular students, studying in 1,276 government schools, 5,325 grant-in-aid schools, 4,331 self-finance and 45 other schools.

The exams for Class X and XII were to be held between May 10 and 25. However, the Gujarat government had postponed the examinations and had said it would review the situation on May 15. Mass promotion has been already given to studying from Class I to IX.

Rupani said the decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of students during the COVID-19 times. He pointed out that vaccination of those below 18 years has not started. Gujarat has started vaccinating those above 18 years.

However, for three days from Friday, vaccination of those above 45 years will be on hold as the government is rescheduling the vaccination following Centre’s guidelines of increasing the gap between two doses of vaccine. Vaccination of those above 18 years will continue, an official said.

Meanwhile, 10,743 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Gujarat in the last 24 that ended at 5 pm on Thursday, taking the total number of persons affected in the state so far to 7,25,353. Besides, 108 more patients lost lives, taking the death tally to 8,840.
