ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ITDC NEWS Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday urged the Central government to step up its vaccine distribution to contain the rapidly spreading COVID-19 infection. "If we get adequate vaccine doses, we can complete vaccination within three months. There are 1.5 crore people above 18 years of age in Delhi, so we need 3 crore doses. Of this, the Delhi government has got only 40 lakh doses so far. We need 2.6 crore more doses," Kejriwal said during a virtual press meet on Saturday.

Even as vaccination is going on in full swing, he said that Delhi has only five-six days of vaccine left. Kejriwal added that one lakh people are being given COVID-19 vaccine daily with people even coming from nearby Ghaziabad and Noida for vaccination. So, Delhi will require a little more than three crore doses, he said. "If the Delhi government is given 80-85 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine per month, we can complete vaccination within three months," he said.

Currently, vaccination is going on at 100 centres in Delhi. The number of centres will be increased to 250-300 by the Delhi government, he said.

The Delhi CM also appealed that vaccines be brought in for children as soon as possible. "We're especially worried about children because they can't be vaccinated now," he said.

Citing warnings of a third wave of COVID 19, he said that vaccination is the only safeguard against the deadly virus.
