ITDC INDIA E PRESS /ITDC NEWS :  Mumbai Indians will play Qualifier-2 match of IPL 2023 against defending champions Gujarat Titans today. The team made it to the qualifiers by defeating Lucknow by 81 runs in the Eliminator. In which Akash Madhwal of 20 lakh rupees took 5 wickets by giving just 5 runs.

Mumbai Indians, the 5-time champion, have performed brilliantly this season in the absence of many key players. While fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah remained out of the entire tournament, Jofra Archer could play only 5 matches. Kieron Pollard, who was the star of Mumbai till last season, was in the role of mentor this time. In such a situation, MI made many changes in their playing XI this season. Along with many youngsters, veterans like Piyush Chawla were also included in the team. The experienced bowler played a key role in the team's success by taking 21 wickets.

In the next story, we will learn about those players, about whom few people knew or expected little, but they won the team matches and made it to the playoffs.

Let's start the story with the hidden Rustom batters of the team…

Hyderabad's 20-year-old batsman Tilak Verma has been in tremendous form this season.

Tilak played many match winning innings. He has 300 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of over 150. He also scored a half-century, which came in the team's very first match against Bengaluru. He could not be a part of the team's 5 matches due to injury, but in all the matches he got a chance, he played useful innings. Tilak also got a chance in India-A during the Bangladesh tour in February this year.

Impact - The Rs 1.70 crore player scored runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 131 last season. But this season he batted down from number-4 to number-6 and scored runs at a strike rate of more than 155.

Tim David

Tim David was bought by Mumbai Indians in 2022 for 8.25 crores, but he was a flop. David was played only 8 matches, in which he scored only 186 runs. Despite this, Mumbai showed confidence in Australia's David and handed him the finishing role of Pollard. David played this role well
