ITDC INDIA E PRESS /ITDC NEWS : Asia Cup 2023 logjam is over. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to approve Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) hybrid model. “The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the Tata IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action in relation to Asia Cup 2023,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah who is also head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said.

What is PCB’s Asia Cup 2023 Hybrid Model?

In the new hybrid model, the tournament will be played in two halves.

In the first phase, all nations except India will visit Pakistan and play 4 games.

In the 2nd phase, they will play against India at a neutral venue.

UAE and Sri Lanka are the two nations that are shortlisted.

But as BCCI, Bangladesh Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket are opposing UAE due to heat, the 2nd phase is likely to be played in Sri Lanka.

The neutral venue will also host the final even if India fail to qualify.

Once the ACC officially announces the hybrid model, the schedule will be announced at the end of June.

While BCCI had earlier refused PCB’s hybrid model, the Indian board is under pressure. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have all given nod to PCB’s new model. Considering that, BCCI has agreed to the model and an official announcement will be made on the matter on the sidelines of IPL final.

“ACC head Jay Shah will summon an executive body meeting where a formal announcement will take place. The PCB doesn’t mind playing India at a neutral venue. While they would prefer Dubai because it would lead to more gate receipts, it is open to playing in another country (read Sri Lanka) provided the ACC matches the gate receipts amount (USD 0.5 million) that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) received in 2022 from the Indo-Pak games in Dubai,” an ACC source privy to development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

However, BCCI has also put some terms and conditions. And the biggest one of them is that PCB has to assure BCCI that it will tour India for World Cup 2023.
