ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ ITDC NEWS : Security has been tightened in Manipur after firing incidents were reported from Manipur's Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
In Imphal West, the firings happened in the Kadangband region. Manipur security advisor Kuldeep Singh told ANI that the firing happened around 1.30 am from the upper hill of Singda Kadangband. "One person received bullet injury on his right little finger and right thigh. He has been evacuated to RIMS Hospital for treatment. BSF and one Section of MR rushed to the spot and conducted an operation and dominated the area," he added.
Fresh violence also rocked the Tronglaobi area of Bishnupur, resulting in the death of one person. "Militants fired at a group of people in the Tronglaobi area of Bishnupur around 9.30 am. A person wounded in the firing died on the way to the hospital."
This comes after a violent mob vandalised the house of Manipur PWD Minister Konthoujam Govindas in the Bishnupur district on Wednesday. The attackers, mostly women, claimed that the government wasn't doing enough to protect locals from militants belonging to another community.
The minister who is a BJP leader and his family members, however, were not present at the house when the mob attacked the house in the Ningthoukhong area and damaged a portion of a gate, windows, a few furniture and electronic gadgets.
Meanwhile, a delegation of state BJP MLAs will travel to Guwahati to meet Union home minister Amit Shah, who is on a visit to Assam, on Thursday. The delegation, led by Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker T Satyabrata Singh, will have representatives from the ruling BJP, NPF and NPP. The team has reached Guwahati and will also submit a memorandum to Shah.
