ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ITDC NEWS R Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi may have passed over the proposal that he take over the leadership of his party in the Lok Sabha, but in the midst of the political row over the Pegasus scandal, he appears to have taken on a lead role in the joint opposition onslaught on the Narendra Modi government in Parliament.

After having chaired a meeting of like-minded parties in the Lok Sabha on the Pegasus issue on Tuesday, Rahul was on Wednesday present in a meeting of opposition parties called by Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, in his chamber in Parliament where a joint strategy was discussed with regard to taking on the government on allegations of snooping using the Israeli spyware.

Gandhi was the lead speaker at a joint press conference of opposition parties held after the meeting, where he hit back at the Modi government for criticising the opposition parties for disrupting Parliament. “We are not disrupting Parliament. We are doing our duty by raising the issue... This (spyware) must be used against terrorists, against those who work against the nation. We want to ask Narendra Modi why it has been used against democratic institutions,” he said.
