ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ITDC NEWS Hundreds of people have gathered at the gate of the CBI office in Kolkata's Nizam Palace to protest against the arrest of two cabinet ministers of West Bengal: Subrata Mukherjee and Firhad Hakim.

Another popular TMC leader, Madan Mitra, has also been arrested. Mitra is a former cabinet minister who is now an MLA.

The fourth man picked up is Sovon Chattopadhyay, another former cabinet minister who last year quit the TMC to join BJP, but then again left BJP after being denied a ticket in the Assembly election.

All four were arrested in connection with the Narada sting operation, which was carried out in 2016 by Tehelka group. Interestingly, the man whose organisation carried the sting operation is also a TMC MP, K.D. Singh, who is also in CBI custody in the Ponzi scam. The accused were seen taking bribes.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rushed to the CBI Eastern Region headquarters in Kolkata's Nizam Palace and demanded the release of her party's leaders.

"Or else, you would have to arrest me," she, reportedly, told the CBI DIG Akhilesh Kumar Singh.

Sensing a degrading law and order situation in and around the CBI office, Singh has alerted CBI headquarters in Delhi.
