ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ ITDC NEWS Salman Khan has proved yet again that he is the 'Sultan' of the box office. His latest release, Bharat, got a bumper opening despite hitting the theatres on the day of Team India's first match in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and earned Rs 42.30 crore on its first day.

With this, Bharat dethroned Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs 40.35 crore) to become the biggest opener of Salman's career. The film continued its winning streak at the box office on its second day and raked in Rs 31 crore, despite it being a weekday. It has earned Rs 95.50 crore so far, with an earning of Rs 22.20 crore on Friday.

Bharat was released in 4,700 screens across the country and has been going strong, especially in single screens. Salman was overwhelmed by the love showered on him by fans and took to Twitter to thank them for giving him the highest-opening film of his three-decade-long career

He wrote, "Big thank you sabko for giving sabse bada opening mere career ka par what made me the happiest and proudest is ki during a scene in my film jab national anthem is recited everyone stood up as a mark of respect. There could be no bigger respect for our country than this... Jai Hind."

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Bharat also features Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Sunil Grover, Nora Fatehi, Jackie Shroff and Sonali Kulkarni in key roles. It depicts the history of India through the life of an ordinary man.

Bharat has bowled over the audience as well as the critics. India Today reviewer Ananya Bhattacharya gave it 3 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Through the eyes of Bharat, we see the journey of Bharat, our country, through some of its best and worst phases. Director Ali Abbas Zafar manages to capture in 2 hours and 47 minutes the ups and downs that this man and his country wade across. The best part of Bharat the film is that it has something for everyone. It is the quintessential Big Salman Khan Film with all its trappings. Romance, comedy (and a lot of it, thanks to Sunil Grover), drama, action, emotion."
